In the midst of their junior year of college March 2020, Anaïs returned to their home in Queens, NY with little idea of what the future had in store. Through their art school studies, virtually, they found themselves drawn to gaining knowledge on how best to take care of their curly hair in the newly found free-time of shutdown. Little did they know that in three years time they would expand their journey in the hair industry with Headchop Studio and Lil’ Chop Salon!

Working in-salon by day and attending Arrojo Cosmetology School by night, they are excited to deep dive into the world of hair, and styling for all textures. They are a firm believer that one’s hair is an extension of themselves. They look forward to providing a well-versed and dynamic approach to hair styling. Anaïs works with each individual person to create a look as unique as their persona that they can wear with confidence.

Martha Ellen, yes both, established Headchop in March of 2011. What once was a one chair wonder, eclectic and private, grew to a speakeasy-esc, appointment only, hair haven to those who are drawn to our specialties in dry cutting for all hair types, encouraging and educating curly and textured humans, and making hair color dreams come true colors.

Whilst fully immersed in her artistry behind the chair, overseeing operations of the studio, and adapting to a new way of business after covid closure, a new kind of C shaped curve showed up. Martha Ellen was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in December of 2020, and stepped away from the chair, her most loved clients, and team to fight cancer.

Truly changed she returned to the chair in early 2022, in remission, cancer free, and in awe of what this life has provided. But, Martha Ellen’s return was short lived.  Bombarded with realizations of life after chemotherapy the transition was bitter and sweet. Being with clients as a hairstylist full time AND running a thriving business is no longer an option for many reasons, but the main one is growth!

As she leans into a new journey, Martha Ellen welcomes you to join her as she expands the offerings, talents, and team at Headchop with its sibling brand and new location, Lil’ Chop! Here you will find Martha Ellen offering a variety of services on a limited basis, ranging from her cosmetic tattoo services of eyebrow microblading and freckle tattooing, in-house and on location event hair styling, and of course, Stay N’ Play services. Don’t know what that is?!..well right this way!
